Title: Bones of Our Mountains: Aoraki Mt Cook National Park
    Author: WATERHOUSE J B

This book called “The Bones of our Mountains” is the first overview of the mountains and rocks of the Aoraki Mt Cook National Park, written especially for tourists and mountaineers. Original relationships of rocks under the sea are outlined, and two great mountain-building episodes are explained, the first characterized by huge slides of sediment, just as in the Alps of Europe and Rocky Mountains of western North America, the second still in progress, and marked by active vertical faults related to the Alpine Fault further west. The book is illustrated by more than 170 colour photographs and diagrams, and has an extensive illustrated glossary and bibliography.
Bruce Waterhouse studied geology at Victoria University of Wellington (then University of New Zealand, Wellington), and went on to do a Ph.D. at Cambridge, England, with an 1851 Royal Exhibition Scholarship. Specialising in stratigraphy and paleontology, he worked at the New Zealand Geological Survey, then was head-hunted to be a professor at the University of Toronto in Canada, and later appointed Dorothy Hill Professor of Stratigraphy and Paleontology at the University of Queensland in Brisbane. Author of more than thirty books and monographs, and several hundred scientific articles, he here offers the first detailed overview of the make-up of the mountains in the Aoraki Mt Cook National Park.
